Mise-en-Scene: Video Feedback and LR

1) Type up your feedback from your teacher in full.

WWW:
- Setting (art gallery)
- Type of shots, static shots and framing of paintings and sculptures
- Modern + classic artwork including Henry Moore sculpture
- Actor positioning
- Accurate costumes
- Audio editing (synced soundtrack)

EBI:
- Tripod

2) Type up a summary of the feedback you have had from the rest of the class.

WWW:
- Camerawork
- Setting and props
- Acting and costumes
- Accurate soundtrack and editing
- Overall a faithful recreation

EBI:
- Using a tripod to avoid shaky camera

3) Use all the feedback you've been given to write your own self-assessment of your video using WWW (What Went Well) and EBI (Even Better If...)

WWW: I think I succeeded in most aspects of mise-en-scene, especially at setting, actor placement, costumes and props/set dressing, and my editing was good enough to work as a faithful rendition of the original scene, which was a pleasant surprise as it was my first time editing anything.

4) Now reflect on your own work in more detail. How did your planning (script, shot list) help clarify and develop your ideas?

There was no dialogue so we didn't need a script, but our shot list greatly helped us when we were filming to keep track of what footage we needed and we stayed organised.

5) Thinking technically, how could you improve your work for future videos? (E.g. filming, editing, audio levels etc.)

In the future I will make sure to film shots using a tripod and camera in order to get more stable and cinematic shots. I would also try to get more ambitious with the type of shots I film to learn more about the film making process.

6) Finally, what have you learned regarding the importance of mise-en-scene in film and television? Write a paragraph to answer this.

Mise-en-scene is important in film and television because it helps communicate things like characters' personalities and interactions, information about the world the story is set in, and more using visual storytelling, creating a distinct atmosphere for the rest of the TV/film. Some aspects of mise-en-scene are vital for establishing the worldbuilding, like setting and props, whereas other aspects like lighting and colour can convey emotions.
