Mise-en-Scene Recreation

For this practical task, I chose to recreate the first minute of the museum scene from Ferris Bueller's Day Off (linked below.)

During the planning stage, there was an emphasis my classmate and I placed on setting being necessary both for the accuracy of the mise-en-scene and for the overall atmosphere of the scene. We filmed our shots at the Tate Britain art gallery, using the paintings on display as set dressing. Since the choice of paintings was also integral to the emotions of the piece, we decided to focus on modern and contemporary art pieces, taking shots of multiple different paintings in order to have choices for which ones we would show in our final cuts of the scene. We also focused on costume, trying to get as close to the original characters' clothing as possible. We utilised the natural lighting of the gallery and attempted to mimic the camerawork as accurately as possible, with the shots only including paintings being handheld in order to have a slight shaking effect.
During editing, I worked on syncing the clips to the original music of the scene, which was important as there was no dialogue, meaning the cuts were communicating the general emotion of the scene.
Overall, I am pleased with this recreation, however if I could have done it again I would have tried to film the second shot of the main trio holding hands around the statue more accurately.
